We created Downton Mortgages & Financial Services in 2018 to give our customers the confidence to make the right financial decisions. Since then, we’ve helped hundreds of customers by offering easy-to-understand advice and always being on hand to answer questions along the way.
We are here to take as much of the stress and work out of the process as we can so you can focus on everything else in life.

Who we are
Clara Downton
Clara has been working in the Financial Services industry for over two decades, both locally and in the City and is the inspiration behind Downton Mortgages & Financial Services. She is a natural at simplifying complicated ideas and with her patience and diligence she is the perfect person to guide you through the mortgage and protection market.
Clara grew up in Bishop’s Stortford which made it the perfect home for Downton Mortgages & Financial Services. When she’s not securing mortgages for her clients, she loves travelling, having visited more than 50 countries in the world so far, and is a keen dancer who also bakes the best brownies in town!
Qualifications: As a Mortgage and Protection Insurance Adviser she is qualified in both CeMAP (Level 3 Certificate in Mortgage and Advice Practice) and CeRER (Certificate in Regulated Equity Release). She is also a member of the Equity Release Council: Clara Downton | Equity Release Council
Shannon Savedge

With over a decade of experience in the Insurance Industry, Shannon joined Downton Mortgages & Financial Services in 2021 to look after the Protection side of the business. Her background in Account Management for the likes of MetLife and Aviva, means that she is an expert in providing clients with a personalised approach to their protection needs.
After leaving her hometown of Orlando to go travelling, she found her way to New Zealand and Australia where she met her British husband and then settled in the UK in 2011. She still loves to travel, is a real foodie and is often found walking with her crazy cockapoo Ralph.

How much does financial advice cost?
People often think that financial advisers charge for all their time, which is not the case. Your initial conversation with us to find out more about our services has no charge.
If you do choose to work with us to secure a mortgage, any fees payable would be at the time we apply for your mortgage. Before that point, we will identify the right options for you and you won’t pay anything until you are ready for us to proceed. For insurance, there is no fee payable but we will receive commission from the insurer.
We will discuss the fees at the initial meeting and if you have any queries or concerns, you should feel free to ask us, we will be open and honest with you.
When you’ve decided to use our services, we will re-outline fees and the products on offer in our discussions so you are clear upfront on the process and whether you want to continue.
